BEN BRAEDEN
Species:
Human
Status:
Active
Occupation:
Hunter (In Training)
Affiliation:
Winchester Family, Wayward Academy
Family:
After his mother and he got in a car accident with someone who should've been paying attention to the road, they returned to their home and tried to pick up their lives where they left off. But there were a lot of questions. Questions from neighbors, concerned about what had happened. Questions from police about the dead body in the house, the body of Lisa's ex-boyfriend. She was taken in and reports were pretty God-damned damning. Her disappearance was questionable, the car accident that didn't involve the car that was still parked at their house as an alibi, the drunk driver who no police report existed for, none of it added up, and her boyfriend's dead body didn't go away. So Lisa did, eventually. Hospital staff confirmed the medical records had her coming in with a stabbing. Nothing made sense, but the dead body had an answer: lover's quarrel.
Ben spent some time really upset, before he became really set to his task. Being sent to his aunt's, the woman was confused by what he didn't remember. She mentioned how confusing the whole thing was; thinks it was likely Dean's fault. When asked who he was, a photo was provided, he was some 'dangerous guy' who came around and how-did-you-forget, she wondered, since it was Ben's father, as far as anyone could guess. What followed was research - lots of it.
The man was at ground zero of dozens of incidents. Cross-country manhunts, murders, bank robberies, and pictures of him as federal agents kept showing up around weird-ass cases. Hunting down the Winchesters for answers got him in the middle of a hell of a lot of trouble, and it all made sense, while he stood over the burning body of something that called itself a rugaru. It didn't take long once his toe was in the water, crossing paths with a hunter when he asked: "where do I find the Winchesters?", and got given much better answers than before.
Pissed off, naive to the world of the supernatural, with the natural talent of a Winchester himself, he finally sees a number he doesn't recognize on his phone and one hell of an awkward conversation.

He found his father, while refusing to turn down the Calling of the hunt. The man was turned, a vampire, trying to kill and eat criminals only. He tried to keep his son from following in his footsteps and being turned, like him, being made into the monsters he hunts. He empathized with the man, but made it clear someone had to stand up for the little people, watch out for the city... and his father regretfully supported him, begging for release. As he cut his father's head clear his shoulders, he knew that there was no turning back. So he went to work: making deals in Chicago, becoming an expert in the psychology of monsters, and killing the hell out of them for going awry. He quit his job as a police officer and became a P.I. on the books; however, he ended up really becoming a specialty-client PI, working for supernaturals and on cases involving supernaturals, cases no one else gets, intervening and becoming The Law in Chicago as he cut down those who got out of line.
And then everything went to hell when the Darkness was let loose. Factions turned against one another desperately, the world feeling like time had been running out. The Winchesters not answering calls, he did his best and with the help of a few allied supernaturals, Chicago's supernatural community was left in ruins. Finally getting back word from Dean and Sam, they came to help him clear out the remnants of the now power-vacuum destructive families, and Chicago was laid bare for mortal crime to fill the voids. Uncertain on his future, he was offered the chance to come to join their efforts in molding the next generation in this fight. Agreeing to offer advice and counsel, he serves in a hunter-trainer capacity, imparting the knowledge he learned of monster behavior and how to leverage human capacity for maximum effort against supernatural beasts; combat and psychology. He is no Man of Letters-- he's a man of the gun and the blade, and has become damn fine in the three years since he was found clueless and lost in Chicago.
